Interval Training for Fitness

Interval Training for Fitness

With summer here and swimsuit and boating season in full swing, people are looking for ways to find their own fitness. So in light of that and my recent venture into this particular area, I thought I’d give you some tips on Interval Training.

Interval Training is Defined

The term interval training is actually a broad description for any kind of training that involves high intensity or anaerobic training combined with lower intensity or aerobic training.

According to Wikipedia, it is generally something that is for distance runners, but I am here to tell you that anyone can benefit from interval training, even if you are currently a dedicated couch potato.

Just to give you a quick example, instead of walking your kids to the park, let them take their bikes and scooters and go the long way. You can do simple interval training en route. The best thing is no special equipment is required! (Though I would definitely recommend a good pair of running or cross training shoes especially if you are serious.)

What Can Interval Training do for You?

Ithough it sounds pretty complex, interval training can actually be quite easy. Personally, I switch between walking and running. Instead of just going on a walk for exercise, I run for a block then walk for a block and repeat. Simple as it sounds, it makes for a pretty intense workout.

Here are just a few benefits: increases endurance, increases cardiovascular health, burns fat faster, helps build lean muscle, burns calories at a higher rate.

FYI, interval training was originally from Sweden, where they called it “fartlek”, meaning “speed play”.

Interval Training for Fitness

There are some great ways to go about setting up your own interval training program for fitness. If you are really serious about getting in shape, do your homework first. Do some research on the internet from reliable sources. (Joe Schmuckatelli’s blog doesn’t count unless he’s a certified fitness expert.)

Another great way to go about setting up a personal interval training program is by finding a good personal trainer. A trainer can help you get serious about your exercise goals and work out a program that’s right for you. Here’s to your success on your path to better health!

Isometric Exercises For the Legs

Isometric Exercises For the Legs

How about some isometric workouts for the legs. You do not want to neglect the leg muscle development as it is as important as the rest of the body. There are a number of isometric exercises that you can utilize for the lower body.

For a squat exercise you can place your back against a wall and slide down till your thighs are parallel to the floor. Make sure your knees are behind your toes. Hold this position for about 10 seconds, relax and repeat.

Another variation of the squat is to go into the squat position just like you were really doing one with weight. Start at the lower position with thighs parallel to the floor, hold for about 10 seconds then raise up to the halfway point and hold another 10 seconds then raise up almost all the way and hold again.

You could do that going up and back down. Do this for a few reps and you will feel the burn. Try the same exercise with your feet spaced from close together to far apart to target the muscles differently.

The calves could also be exercised the same way. Raise up on your toes and hold for 10 seconds then lower yourself about halfway and hold again. While sitting, put one foot on top of the other and push the against each other then switch, you will target the front of the lower leg with this. Try hooking your toes under something immovable and lift your toes against it, this will also target the front of the lower leg.

Online College For All Stages of Life

Online College For All Stages of Life

In the 1960 film High Times, late entertainer Bing Crosby portrayed the role of 51-year-old Harvey Howard, who decides to enroll in college for the first time in order to earn his bachelors degree. That would have been unusual for someone at that age and at that time, but today, people are attending college into their 70s and 80s.

Of course, one thing we have today that the fictional Harvey Howard did not is the miracle of Internet technology - and online college makes it easier than ever.

On Your Own, At Your Pace

One of the problems Bing Crosby’s character faced was the fact that he was old enough to be his classmates’ father - and while he was a sober and mature middle-aged man, his fellow students loved to “party down.” In earning an online college degree, this is one problem that you won’t have to deal with. This is also an aspect of online college that can be challenging; it is a solitary pursuit, and it takes real self-motivation to succeed. But if you are even considering going through an online college program, chances are you are pretty motivated already.

The other aspect of an online college degree is that it can be completed on your own time and at your own pace. You are not bound by the traditional semester or quarter system; typically, you have up to twelve months to complete an online college course.

A Thrifty Way To Go

An online college degree doesn’t require that you pay many of the fees that are traditionally associated with college. Obviously, your commute is only a few feet, from your bedroom to your PC terminal; in addition, you won’t be assessed for things such as lab fees and ASB fees.

In addition, online college is eligible for the same loans and grants as a traditional degree program.

Fully Accredited

The face is that online college degree programs are offered by virtually all major colleges and universities today. These institutions are fully accredited, which means that your online college degree carries the same weight as any other.

Self-Improvement

Of course, you don’t have to complete a full online college program; you may simply wish to take an online college course or two in order to brush up on an old skill or develop some new ones.

Get Started Now

There are thousands of online college options available; your biggest challenge may be narrowing your focus and deciding which one is best for you and your goals. There’s no time like the present however to get started in finding the right online college.

Insomnia Cure I Can’t Sleep!

Insomnia Cure I Can’t Sleep!

Living with insomnia is one of the most challenging health conditions there is. The side effects are dramatic and touch nearly every aspect of life. The good news is that most conditions respond very well to a natural insomnia treatment.

My intention is certainly not to be a medical authority, serious conditions that have chronic symptoms and neurological causes need medical treatment. Yet even such cases are often helped by natural remedies.

Few things in this world can weaken us faster than insomnia. Besides the obvious fatigue, there is the lack of concentration, memory lapses, irritability, and weakened immune system, just to mention a few symptoms.

A lack of sleep has the effect of bringing out the worst in us. The ability to cope simply goes down the drain. Life becomes like an endless stream of event in which we are required to participate; hopefully without making too many mistakes.

Insomnia can take the zest out of everyday life and dull our senses. To top it off, you just can’t store up sleep, like food for the winter. Talk about something to bring on stress!

What is insomnia?

Everyone experiences the inability to sleep soundly once in a while. It is when it occurs often that the problems arise. Generally, it is defined as:

1. Trouble falling asleep

2. Waking up a lot during the night with trouble returning to sleep

3. Waking up too early in the morning

4. Having un-refreshing sleep, even after 7 or 8 hours of sleep

Losing sleep can cause problems during the day, such as fatigue, trouble thinking clearly or staying focused, or feeling depressed or irritable. It is not defined by the number of hours you sleep every night. Although the amount a person needs varies, most people need between 7 and 8 hours a night.

It is not necessary to lie awake at night, your mind marching through endless scenarios of sleep-depriving worry. There is a way to find the rest and peace you need!

Types of insomnia and their causes

1. Short Term- Lasting from a few nights to a few weeks.

2. Intermittent (on and off)- Short term , which happens from time to time.

3. Long Term or Chronic-Occurs at least 3 nights a week over a month or more.

4. Having un-refreshing sleep, even after 7 or 8 hours of sleep

Chronic insomnia is either primary or secondary. Primary means that it is not caused by any other health problem. Secondary means that it is caused by a medical condition, such as arthritis, cancer, depression. It can also be caused by a partner who snores loudly or poor sleeping conditions, such too much noise or light.

Women and men

Women are much more likely to suffer from insomnia than men. Some research suggests that certain social factors, such as being unemployed or divorced, are related to poor sleep and increase the risk of insomnia in women. Pregnancy and menopause may also disturb sleep. The well known symptom of hot flashes can cause sleeplessness as well. Menopause insomnia can make your days pretty long, fortunately there is a lot you can do to help yourself.

The inability to sleep well can also increases with age.

Are there any solutions that are safe and effective?

If your inability to sleep is primary, that is, not caused by another medical condition, then there are numerous ways to find some well needed rest.

Many old remedies are very effective and totally safe. For example, the warm milk drink before bed often works wonders.

Various herbal drinks such as chamomile are also very good, and there are many other herbal remedies that are non-addictive and have no harmful side effects.

Golf has one of the most glorious histories of any sport still played. The origin of golf is unclear and open to debate however the most accepted golf history theory is that golf (as practiced today) originated from Scotland in the 12th century, with shepherds knocking stones into rabbit holes in the place where the famous Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews is now.

A golf-like game is recorded as taking place on 26 February 1297, in the Netherlands, where the Dutch played a game with a stick and leather ball. However, the modern game of golf we understand today is generally considered to be a Scottish invention, as the game was mentioned in two 15th-century Acts of the Scottish Parliament, prohibiting the playing of the game of gowf. Some scholars, however, suggest that this refers to another game which is much akin to shinty or hurling, or to modern field hockey rather than golf. They argue that a game of putting a small ball in a hole in the ground using golf clubs was played in 17th-century Netherlands and that this predates the game in Scotland.

Golf is a great game, sometimes rewarding, often frustrating but highly addictive. Getting started in it is actually not so difficult. The biggest mistake by people wanting to start in golf is to rush out and buy a brand new set of shiny and expensive

golf clubs. While they are nice to look at you should keep in mind that today’s golf equipment comes in great varieties to cater for different golfing types and abilities. Since you’re just starting out you do not know which set fits you best. A common myth is that the higher the price of a club, the better your game will be. Paying high prices does not lower ones handicap, but a properly chosen club will, even a cheap one.

The recliner will work on his head, nape, back, and lower back. Many people buy this because it is more comfortable to get a quick massage at home rather than go out to visit a massage parlor. It relieves stress after a tiring day at work.

It is quite expensive that it becomes a problem if the device breaks down. The service repairs may be costly, plus it is hassle to bring to a service center. You might do well to consider a few tips on how to repair minor damages on your own.

How do Massage Recliners Get Damaged? There are some factors that can render damage to a massage recliner. Such devices can only hold a certain weight capacity. Putting too much weight on it will result to damaged recliners. An example is when children jump in repeatedly on the recliner, or when a big man sits on a small recliner or when a lot of unnecessary stuff is placed on the recliner negligently. The electrical circuit of a recliner may also fail. This can be caused by some valid reasons. Either the electrical wiring may have been cut by a sharp object, or a mouse had bitten all the wires or the remote does not work because of misusage.

The upholstery of these recliners may sometimes be easily damaged. It may tear the upholstery if it is accidentally scratched with sharp objects or long fingernails. A stain can also cause an undesirable look for the upholstery. If you experience these things, do not think that it is the end of the recliner’s service for you and your family. There are a lot of remedies that can be done to fix or repair your recliner.

Tips on How to Fix and Repair Your Massage Recliner First things first, when you purchase a recliner from an authorized dealer or direct, be sure to keep the receipt of your purchase for product warranty purposes. This can help you save a lot of money.

When the warranty period is over and your recliner needs some repair it would be best to contact the outlet first where you bought the recliner. In that way, they can direct you to an authorized service center to help you with your concerns. On the other hand, some service centers are asking for high repair costs. They sometimes ask for an acceptance fee, diagnosis fee and other miscellaneous fees. It is unfair on your side when all you need is just some minor repair.

Now, there are a lot of small shops that can help solve your problem. Looking at the different damaged components of you recliner, you can easily tell where to have it serviced. For example, if the damaged part is the upholstery; go to an upholstery shop near your place. If there are none, consult a telephone directory or the Internet. If the damaged part is the motor, bring it to an electrical repair shop. If the damage is on the wooden or steel support, visit a woodcraftsman or a machine shop. These simple shops can cater to your concerns. Furthermore, you may be able to save money because of their cheaper service.

Last, you might want to carefully evaluate the situation first. See if you can do it yourself. Yes, you might actually be able to repair it alone. If the problem is just a stripped wire, you can replace it using the proper tools. If there is a hole in the upholstery, you might be able to patch it up with something. There might be just some small repairs that can be easily done. Just be resourceful and creative. In that way, you can save a lot more money.

A Big Problem With a Natural Solution

A Big Problem With a Natural Solution

Do you lie awake at night tossing and turning? Do you count sheep until you’re so tired of seeing sheep you wish you never saw another sheep?

Do you have insomnia?

Perhaps you’re always tired. Always feel like you need a good few hours sleep, but can’t get it.

Maybe your relationship is suffering because your tossing and turning all night disturbs your partner. Maybe you’re grumpy when you’re tired and your partner has had enough of your bad moods.

Insomnia can be a huge problem. And if you have it it’s probably a huge problem for you right now. Maybe it’s causing you some physical or mental health problems for example.

Everyone has the odd night when they spend some time awake. Maybe there is something on your mind, something to worry about. Perhaps you took a nap in the afternoon and you can’t sleep as well at night now.

But there is a big difference between the odd night’s interrupted sleep and night after night of sleeplessness.

Insomnia can come in many forms. Maybe you spend hours at night before you get to sleep for the first time. Perhaps you can get to sleep fine but wake up in the middle of the night and can’t get back to sleep. Or perhaps you sleep fine till early morning then can’t sleep after 4 or 5 am.

There are many causes of sleeplessness. There are medical conditions which can cause insomnia as a side effect of the condition, and there are also medications which can have the same effect.

Or your body may have just learned a pattern of not sleeping, and unlearning it can be extremely difficult.

And like the causes there are also a wide range of remedies for insomnia. For example there are many prescription drugs that can be prescribed for sleeplessness. However many people are suspicious of prescription drugs and don’t want to rely on a drug which they may end up taking for a long time.

If you’re worried about your inability to sleep well at night a visit to the doctor is well worthwhile. You may have an underlying medical condition that needs treating. But if you’re just suffering from sleeplessness there is good news.

There are many excellent natural cures for insomnia that work well, and are inexpensive or free. Often a simple change of routines can be enough to break the cycle of sleeplessness, and if that doesn’t work there are many other natural remedies for insomnia worth trying.
